Fraser PlaySchool

We are so excited to announce that Fraser Playschool will be back for September 2023!

Fraser Playschool is a community owned, parent-run cooperative program for children 3 - 4 years of age. Classes are held in the Fraser Community League Hall located 14720-21 Street. We are a self-funded, non-profit organization supported by registration fees and fundraising activities.

The playschool provides a quality program that enhances the overall development of children through the creation of a positive self-concept, encouraging a love of learning and developing the skills to play and interact cooperatively in a group setting. These objectives are fulfilled through a "learn through play" environment with an emphasis on the social, emotional, physical, creative and intellectual development of each child. By providing a "learn through play" environment, each child can learn to develop at an individual pace while still benefiting from being part of a group.

Within an environment that is safe, friendly and stimulating, the children are provided with "free play" time. The child may choose his or her own area to play with toys, puzzles or games, the activity centers, participate in a craft or select a quiet area for reading or just being alone. During circle time, the children are singing, group discussions and stories that enable them to learn about themselves and the world. The teacher will provide good supervision and guidance at all times, encouraging participation and praising achievements and good behavior. To accentuate the learning and fun environment of the playschool, students will experience field trips. In addition, all special occasions and holidays such as Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day etc. will be celebrated with parties or special activities. Outside play is also an important part of the curriculum.

Meet Our Teacher: Teresa Sanders!

Growing up, Teresa Sanders always had a love for education and learning through play! Teresa grew up in Clareview and is easing her own family in the area too. Graduating from the University of Alberta in 2006, she fulfilled her dream of becoming a teacher by receiving her degree in Elementary Education and minoring in Educational Psychology.

Teaching Head Start in NE Edmonton for several years demonstrated to her the importance and value of learning through play, especially for our most vulnerable youth. After teaching Head Start, Teresa moved on to a position with The GRIT Program. Within her role as a coordinating teacher, Teresa specialised in coaching parents, early education providers and kindergarten teachers in how to engage in play and modify curriculum to support learning for children with a range of special needs in an inclusive setting.

For the last 4 years, Teresa has embraced her role as a stay at mom to her children Emerson and Poppy. During that time she also did training in Intellidance, an early education dance and music program, She had also been involved with volunteering at Fraser Elementary. She joined the Fraser School Council as the Advocacy Representative to give a voice to the neuro divergent children and families at the school. Her heart has always been drawn to teaching in her community so being the preschool teacher at Fraser Community League is an exciting new adventure she can’t wait to begin!
